Anticipated questions

Planned

Every question below has a written answer and a link to the evidence that backs it. A question with no evidence link is an open risk, and open risks are worked down before the defense is scheduled, not during it.

Questions are graded by how much damage an unprepared answer would do.

Tier 1: fatal if unanswered

1Why is this a contribution rather than an engineering exercise?not-started
2What would falsify your central claim?not-started
3Why this method rather than the obvious alternative?not-started

Tier 2: damaging

#QuestionAnswer statusEvidence
4How do your results generalise beyond the conditions you tested?not-started
5Why should the committee trust these measurements?not-started

Tier 3: expected, answerable

6What would you do differently with another year?not-started

Questions actually asked

Filled in after each examination. The questions a committee really asks are the best possible input to the next rehearsal, and they are forgotten within a day if they are not written down immediately.
