Before submitting a talk

Check the venue against the constraints that actually bind: abstract deadline runway, travel and visa lead time, registration cost, and whether the format is a talk, a poster or a lightning slot. A talk accepted at a venue that cannot be reached is worse than no submission.

After every talk

Record the questions asked, verbatim where possible, and whether each was answered well. Recurring questions belong in the defense question bank.
